(I never posted this in February, but it is now more apropriate than ever)
America is in crisis mode. I think we all feel it. The root causes of the situation are not the subject of this article, so I'll just discuss a symptom that, if lanced and bandaged, might keep the patient from dying. Full recovery will need a couple of antibiotics.
The vast majority of us are angry over the pathetic results we are seeing in this years' Presidential primary system. The system is WRONG. Worse than wrong, it is unconstitutional. I live in Texas and, as of this date (Feb. 27th), I have not had a chance to vote for ANY of the original 8 Republican candidates. The field has already been reduced to 1 - John McCain. The first 4 states (less than 3 million Republican voters) in this sequence essentially decided my candidate for me and for the scores of millions of conservative voters in the other 46 states! What kind of a joke is this? Most of the country (Dems too) have just been deprived of our constitutional rights to exercise our votes and choose our leaders! I call on the Supreme Court to rule on the constitutionality of this system of unequal representation. Would someone with clout please appeal this to the Court?
This system is ridiculous. Worse than that, it is moronic. Worse than that, it is evil. It is shameful and unworthy of an advanced society. The rest of the world must marvel at our stupidity. This travesty could only be reversed for this season if we all demand that both conventions this summer be thrown open and all the original 8 candidates of both parties be allowed to return for balloting by the delegates. Indirectly through these delegates, our votes would mean something if each delegate is not bound to vote by and out of the previous carnage.
In any election, voters need to vote AT THE SAME TIME. Otherwise, the secret ballot system that we have always cherished means NOTHING. This primary voting system is A(n) election! What part of "duh" don't we understand? Sadly, though, because of the tricksters who set up this system FOR us and who knew that it would be the best way for them to keep power and control over us, we are now the next nation that is sliding into the ashbin of History. Ronald Reagan forgive us. And may God have mercy on us all.
