When in the Course of Human Events -- Arguing the Case for Southern Secession

The State of Jones -- The Small Southern County That Seceeded From The Confederacy
Sally Jenkins & John Stauffer, Doubleday, New York, London, Toronto, Sydney, 2009.
This is the story of Newton Knight who led his county (Jones County, Mississippi) to rebel in 1863. His family, broken, was forced to flee as he was hunted by Confederate forces. An ex-slave girl, Rachel, hid and cared for him during and after the war when family members sought vengeance on him. A great read.
